When T-Mobile launched the very first Android-powered handset – the G1 – back in 2008, the app library to go along with it looked like a minimart beside Apple’s Walmart. But the past few years have been kind to Google. The recent release of several new high-profile Android handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S, Droid X and HTC Evo 4G have turned that initial drizzle of apps into a torrent. Now with over 100,000 apps and counting, Google’s Android Market offers applications for just about everything – sometimes making it difficult to choose. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up what we think are the best Android apps in several different categories to give new users a rough guide to getting the most from their phones, and experienced users a heads up on some apps they may be missing out on.

HTC Pyramid to be called HTC Sensation

Long-time rumored, HTC Pyramid could see the light next week on April 12th in London under the name of HTC Sensation. This new information comes from the guys over at Pocket-lint who received a tipster from a trusted source. 

We know HTC's style of choosing names for their phones, so probably after the HTC Incredible, we had to see some Sensations, right? At least for the UK market, where the smartphone is going to arrive "in the coming months". No details regarding a specific carrier or exact specs were given. 

HTC Sensation aka HTC Pyramid is expected to have a large 4.3-inch touchscreen running at qHD resolution, 768MB of RAM, a rear 8 MP cam with dual LED flash plus Android 2.3 Gingerbread, all wrapped up in a unibody-style back. We'll find out for more next week at HTC's press launch.

Gartner: Android to become the most popular OS by 2012

Already gotndroid? More and more analysts' long term forecasts indicate positive predictions for one of the most known OS, which is said to become the most popular OS by the end of the year.

According to Gartner's latest scores, sales of open OS devices will account for 26 percent of all mobile handset device sales in 2011, and to go up to 1 billion mark by 2015, when they will account for 47% of the total mobile device market.

The analyst research firm expects the Android to register a substantial increase up to 49.2% of the market share by the end of 2012, while Symbian will see a decline from 19.2% in 2011 to 5.2% in 2012. As for the Apple iOS, it will account for 18.9% in 2012 compared to 19.4% by the end of this year.

Microsoft says also a dramatic comeback with 10.8 percent of the market share in the 2012, compared to 5.6% in 2011. If you take a look at the attached photo, you'll see that Android OS is the only with a real increase. This cute little fellow is about to become the most famous and popular OS worldwide.
